Kangol-cross Kobi is a gentle giant who just wants to be loved
Meet Kobi the gentle giant who just wants to be fussed and to be allowed to play with friends.
Kobi is a Kangol-cross and anyone who knows anything about this wonderful Turkish breed then you will know what gentle and loyal dogs Kangols can be.
Kobi shows all the signs of having picked up the wonderful breed characteristics of the Kangol.
Kobi was originally spotted living on the streets of Ovacik near Fethiye where he was showing a little too much interest in another dog on heat.
He was picked up by our friends at Animal Aid Ovacik who had him neutered before being released back on to the streets.
At some point after this he was picked up and carted off to the shelter.
However, they did not keep him long and eventually they decided to release him back on to the streets again but this time close to fish market in central Fethiye.
Most of the stallholders there took to him and they gave him the nickname of Cobra. He took the name Kobi when he was eventually brought into AFOT care.
We are not sure what happened but at some point he was obviously the victim of some form of attack as one day he was found with cuts on his legs and with a huge cyst under his chin.
He was found once again by animal welfare volunteers who took him several times to the vet to be treated.
It was at this point that volunteers from Animal Aid found a safe place for him to go and so he is now safely in foster care.
They were reluctant to release him back on to the streets so they came to us at AFOT asking for help in finding him a permanent home in the UK.
Kobi is the gentlest soul and loves being fussed. There are two other dogs in his foster home and he loves nothing better than playing with them.
He is about 18 months old, he has been neutered and has had multi vaccinations and his rabies jab. It will not be long, therefore, before he is ready to make the trip to the UK.
He does not seem bothered by cats or chickens, and he just wants to play with other dogs.
He is living with another AFOT rescue – young pup Honey – and they have become devoted to each other despite the big difference in size.
Kangal-cross dogs are large but very gentle and very loyal. They have traditionally been used as shepherd dogs in Turkey.
They are very popular and especially with those familiar with the breed. He will need a home with some decent space and a home where he can get some decent exercise.
It would be wonderful to find a home with other dogs as he is so sociable.
