Young pup Ellie is safe after struggling on the street
Sibling pups Ellie and Rowan were born to the streets but for some reason the streets did not want them.
The pair were spotted when they were still just three months old being bullied and harried by a pack of street dogs in the area they were born.
We do not know where their Mum was as she would ordinarily have provided some protection for them.
And it is likely that the pack of street dogs merely wanted to shoo them away to avoid having two more dogs on their patch to compete for whatever little food there was.
An animal welfare volunteer living near to where the pups were in Kalkan spotted all this.
She could not stand by and let these two pups suffer.
And so she decided to take them in temporarily and then contact Animal Friends of Turkey to ask for our help in finding new forever homes for them.
Black-nosed Ellie is a sweet little girl who has now settled into foster care with the volunteer who saved her.
She and her brother have got used to the resident dogs there and seem to be settling well into life within a home.
We will now start the process of preparing both of them for their journey to the UK although we will have to wait until they are at least 16 weeks before this can start in earnest.
This will be around the end of November and the full process will then take four months to complete the process meaning they will not be ready to travel until around April or May of 2021.
As with all puppies we rescue in Turkey this will mean she will be at least nine months old by the time she travels.
Ellie will obviously change a great deal in that time and this will give us the time to assess her and her needs carefully.
When she is a little bit older we will be testing to see just how child friendly and cat friendly they are.
Her nature is very sweet and gentle at the moment and we do not expect this to change.
However, her characteristics will start to become clearer as the weeks go on and we will update her story along the way.
She will also change a good deal as she grows and we will be also update her story with new photos from time to time
We will need to find the right homes for Ellie and Rowan as time goes by as we will be looking to home them separately unless the opportunity comes along to home them together.
