Young boy rescued from shelter after his owner ups and leaves him – Reserved
Popcorn is a sweet three-year-old cross breed boy who just does not know quite what is going on at the moment
He was originally rescued from the Haydos shelter in Turkey along with his brother Butch when he was just a pup.
Ever since the day of his rescue it seems he lived contendedly with an ex-pat resident, his sibling and one other rescue dog.
All was fine until one day early this year his owner decided she wanted to move back to the UK and she was not prepared to take her dogs with her.
Instead she simply drove her three dogs back to the shelter and left them there.
As far as we can see she made no attempt to find new homes for them and she refused offers from the shelter to help her with a relocation to the UK.
She simply upped sticks and went off leaving all three utterly confused and bewildered in the shelter.
The shelter is a totally different environment indeed to living in the comfort of domestic surroundings in a home and it was clear all three were struggling.
It was then that Haydos approached AFOT for help in finding a way back into someone’s home for all three of them.
We answered the call and all three are now out of the shelter and living in foster care in Turkey while we prepare them for travel to the UK. We expect them to be ready around March time.
Popcorn loves other dogs and loves to play. He has a quiet slightly timid nature but that just adds to his charm.
We suspect some of this may be due to his current confusion and we believe that his natural bouncy self is likely to emerge once he feels more settled and secure again.
Although Popcorn has been with brother Butch since birth, we have not seen a particularly strong bond between them while in foster care.
For this reason, while we would be happy for them to go to a new home as a pair we do not think it absolutely necessary.
He lacks a tiny bit in confidence, as is the case with all three of them, and we actually wonder whether letting him strike out on his own into a new family might do him good.
The slight lack of confidence will be in part due to his current state of confusion but we also suspect that some of it will be due to the fact that his previous owner most likely did very little with him or the other two dogs.
All he really needs now is a new home in the UK. Somewhere where he can feel secure, safe and loved.
