Playful rescue pup Drake deserves a home filled with love and understanding
Drake is less than a year old and yet he has already seen so much in his short life.
This young lively boy was one of four pups born in an area of Turkey notorious for the cruelty shown by locals towards street dogs.
The four of them were found when they were tiny with their mother and all five were in bad shape.
They were taken to a nearby vets where sadly one of the pups passed away. The vet treated the rest before letting them go back out on to the streets again.
An animal volunteer operating in the area on the outskirts of Istanbul, who works closely with Animal Friends of Turkey, came across them and asked us if we could help.
The prospect for the three of them surviving in that area was low to non-existent and so we worked hard to find space in our foster network for them.
The volunteer then went out to try to catch them so they could be transported to Fethiye and into our care.
However, when she went to look there were only the two of them to be found and the third pup was nowhere to be seen.
Those two pups included Drake and his sister Pearl and they are now safe and sound living in homes with a foster carer.
Drake is medium-sized in build and he is adjusting well to his new life of being cared for.
He is a bright and clearly very clever boy and we believe he should respond really well to training and guidance.
This will be helpful as it is clear it will take him a little while for him to fully settle and to learn for truly trust, as is often the way with rescue dogs who have seen cruelty at first hand.
He loves his walks and will happily trot alongside you off lead as he explores the sights and scents of the trek. He is still a little wary of the lead but he is receiving training in this area while in foster care.
Drake is a now a healthy lad and an extremely sociable and playful boy. He loves the other dogs and there is nothing he likes better than to play with them.
For this reason we believe he would be better suited to a home where there is already a resident dog or dogs.
We are now preparing him so he can be made ready for the journey across Europe to his new forever home in the UK. We expect him to be just over one years old when he ready for this.
We know that Drake will blossom into a real beauty in the right household and with the right amount of patience and understanding.
