Loving pup Topaz so happy to be rescued from village of hate

Topaz is the most loving and gentle of rescue girls.

She loves life, she loves people, she loves companionship, she loves other dogs. Most of all, though, she is just happy to be in a place where people are kind.

Topaz is actually one of the lucky ones to find herself where she is now safe in care in Fethiye.

There are some places within Turkey that are notorious for the cruelty and disdain that their residents vent on the dogs that live on the streets.

One such place is a village in the East of Turkey by the name of Nidge where new stories of atrocity and cruelty seem to emerge almost weekly.

Topaz is a beautiful and gentle girl who is happy to be safe

Topaz is a young Kangal-cross pup who had the misfortune to be born in the heart of this village along with her siblings.

Luckily for her there are still people living there who actually care for animals and are prepared to step in to help them.

And so it was that Topaz, her mother and one of her siblings were scooped up off the streets after suffering a campaign of cruelty inflicted by villagers who regard street dogs as vermin.

The intervention of the animal welfare volunteer who saved her came in time for Topaz, her brother and mother but unfortunately not in time to save the rest of her siblings.

They were all captured by villagers who took them to an unknown place to be dumped or worse. They have not been seen since.

The three survivors are currently in a sanctuary near to Fethiye and we have agreed to help out in finding a home for this special girl.

She is safe now and happy, and she is just waiting for a space to come available within the AFOT foster care network.

The Kangal breed is famous for its calm and loving nature, and Topaz displays all that is beautiful about the breed.

It is this wonderful temperament and the love and loyalty that they show to the families that take them that makes them such a popular breed for those that know.

The other characteristic of the Kangal breed is that grow into large, lithe dogs and Topaz is going to be no exception.

She is beautiful, gentle and kind and she shows no food aggression or indeed any side to her at all.

She is great with all kinds of people and all kinds of dogs.

She plays with her brother but two of her closest dog friends are both small dogs who just love to play with their big mate.

The play can sometimes get a little rough but throughout it all Topaz is very gentle with them. It’s almost as if she realises the disparity in size and compensates for it.

Once Topaz comes into AFOT foster care we will ensure that she is tested throoughly with both cats and with children.

We will not know until these tests are done but Kangals are often very good with both due to their calm temperament.

She is great on the lead and loves her walks exploring the countryside.

Topaz has already started her preparation to make her ready for her journey to the UK and to her new forever home. We hope this will be around February of 2021.

Topaz is waiting for that special person and her new forever home in the UK

The task now is to find the right home for her where she can feel loved and safe.

She will need good exercise and a reasonable sized garden for her to play and rest in.

And like every rescue dog in the world, she will need someone who can show her the love, patience and understanding that she will need in the months ahead.

So if you feel you could be that special person for Topaz then please check out what’s involved in taking on one of our rescue dogs by clicking this link and reading our Dog Adoption Policy guidelines.
