Little Mickey was plucked from the midst of bullies and is now finding his paws with his foster mum – keeping her on her toes!
When Mickey was found as a tiny puppy in the middle of the road, the lady who saw him couldn’t believe how he was being taunted and bullied by the local Turkish children.
He was so small, so young, skinny and dirty, and in obvious distress. A local volunteer took him into her home and saved his life.
AFOT was alerted to his plight shortly afterwards whilst hosting a fundraising day. He stole our hearts.
Mickey is now six months old and weighs 11kg. (7th July 2022). Although he has another few months to grow, being a small terrier type dog, we don’t think he will grow much more, possibly to 13-15kg.
Mickey has a stubborn streak but you can’t help but love him. He’s a bit of a handful at the moment but this should pass as he gets through his teens! Like all young dogs, Mickey needs kind but consistent training. He is a very, very clever and very food orientated youngster so it will be easy to train him with treats and this will forge a strong bond with his new family.
Mickey is great with the resident foster dogs and loves to play and has lots of energy to burn. He can be cat friendly when he chooses and he currently lives with nine cats who take no notice of him but when he is feeling a little nervous he can go for them, so although a home with a cat would be considered, we would give preference to a cat free home.
He is a timid dog and we would guess this is because he wasn’t with his mother for the length of time he should have been. He was very nervous of noises like cars if the engine was on and would stop walking but now will walk past them but although he is still a little nervous, but this confidence will come in time as he learns to trust the outside world.
He is a typical terrier-X and on the go the whole time so we’re looking for a home that will be able to give him all the time he needs to become the dog he is meant to be. Someone who can offer tons of time and patience and continue with his training.
We feel a home with another dog to help Mickey’s confidence grow as well as to be a playmate is the ideal home.
Mickey will make a loving, loyal, fun addition to any family so if you’re interested in finding out more please check out what’s involved in taking on one of our rescue dogs by clicking this link and reading our Dog Adoption Policy guidelines.
