Brooklyn has found her escape from the misery of the shelter
Meet Brooklyn – the bundle of fun and energy picked up off the streets and dumped in the shelter.
She was found by local authority officials with one young pup and both were scooped up and taken to the shelter.
It was clear that when she was found she had been trying to survive by scavenging for scraps from dustbins.
Over the course of the next couple of days six more pups were found in the same area and they too were taken to the shelter to be reunited with their sibling and Mum.
All the puppies as well as mother were totally ridden with worms and fleas, and they were all absolutely starving.
Animal Friends of Turkey soon became aware of them and we felt compelled to act as a shelter is no place at all for pups that are so young.
They are too young for vaccinations and there is so much disease prevalent in the shelter. It is unlikely that they would have survived had they stayed there.
We moved quickly to take six of the seven puppies into foster care as the seventh was offered a home elsewhere.
They are all thriving now and growing with each day that passes. We will look to home them over the coming weeks and months.
With the pups safe, we felt we could not leave Mum behind as she would be destined for a long debilitating life stuck in the shelter.
So we stepped in and decided to help her too to find a new loving home of her own.
We estimate that Brooklyn is now between 18 months and two years old and she too is now happy in foster care away from the shelter.
She is so friendly and there is nothing she likes better that a cuddle and oodles of affection.
She settled in straight away with the other dogs in the home and she quickly made herself comfortable on the sofa.
She will now be neutered and we will take her through the full process to prepare her for transportation to the UK and to a new loving home of her own.
She is fine with other dogs and over the course of the next few weeks we will assess her with children and also with cats.
Now we just want to find the right home for Brooklyn and we know the perfect place is waiting out their for this lovely dog.
