Young Pug pup Gem loves people despite the cruelty he has seen

Gem by name and certainly a gem by nature – meet this little Pug cross puppy who has stunned everyone who meets him with his love of life and love of people.

Indeed it is truly stunning the trust this young rescue dog has in people given the appalling cruelty and abuse he suffered earlier this year.

Gem was found by animal volunteers connected to Animal Care of Uzumlu (ACU) in a terrible state and in excruciating pain.

Rescue puppy Gem is such a cute and happy boy and a real character

It defies belief what some people are capable of but someone had hacked off his tail and dumped him to suffer untreated from his horrific injuries.

The volunteers who came across him found him extremely distressed and crying with pain.  His wound had become terribly infected and he could not even sit down because of the pain.

This disturbing photo shows the cruel injury he suffered but it has fully healed since

The wonderful people at ACU took him in and have guided him through to full recovery thanks to some excellent veterinary care and lots of TLC.

The volunteers who found him originally called this young fella Cem but as in Turkish this is pronounced Gem we have decided on the slight name change.

Gem is simply adorable and his love of life is infectious

He was found in March and AFOT became aware of him early on and have been following his journey closely over the intervening weeks.

We believe Gem is just under a year old and we felt positive from an early stage that he would find a home with relative ease.

Gem is looking a new loving home in the UK

However, every opportunity that has arisen has astonishingly ended with a dead end.  The volunteers at ACU have been running out of options and so AFOT stepped forward to offer assistance with the aid of its wonderful band of supporters.

We were only too pleased to offer it and we are delighted that there is a wonderful home and a gloriously happy life awaiting this character in the beautiful setting of Loch Lomond.

Gem can pull some funny faces as well – this is his Mutley impression

Despite all he has suffered, Gem still loves people and we also know that he gets on extremely well with other dogs, and he is also cat friendly.

Volunteers at ACU recently took him along to a busy local festival and he was not at all phased by the mass of people.  Indeed he spent most of the time sat happily on the volunteer’s lap just taking it all in.

We worked with ACU to place Gem in the temporary care of a of an AFOT foster home in Kalkan while we went through the process of finding a permanent home for him in the UK.
