Beautiful rescue dog Boncuk deserves his new life of love and security

Boncuk knew only hardship and a cruel world. Now that world is a million miles away as he is living the life of his dreams in London. Here is his original story …

Beautiful Boncuk is only now coming to understand what the kindness of humans really means.

This gorgeous boy spent the first two years of his life tethered outside to a 1.5 metre chain on a parcel of land in Ovacik near Fethiye.

Fortunately he was spotted by a warm hearted lady who moved into a rental property nearby and immediately her heart went out to this wonderful dog.

Boncuk is as gentle as a lamb and will make a fabulous pet

Nobody spoke to him and from what she could see he was fed solely on a diet of bread and water. It was pitiful to see.

She found the owners and spoke to them and it was clear the family wanted rid of him.

The husband dismissed him as useless because he did not bark at the wild boar when it came close and the wife and daughter were threatening to take an axe to him such was their hatred.

Boncuk is loving life off the chain and living in the house with a family

Something had to be done and so the Good Samaritan contacted Animal Aid Ovacik, a wonderful animal rescue charity that operates in the area.

They were fearful that the family would either subject sweet Boncuk to a life of hell, send him to the shelter or worse.

At first they arranged to provide him with proper food while they worked up a plan for him and then eventually they were able to get him away from there and into proper foster care.

Boncuk on his first ever car journey and he was as calm as could be

They got him neutered and got him settled into his new place of safety before working on a plan to find a more permanent home for him.

This was when they contacted Animal Friends of Turkey to ask for our help in finding a new forever home for this prince of rescue dogs.

Boncuk is quite clearly a Kangal-cross and has the sweetest and most gentle of natures.

Boncuk is loving and affectionate boy who is loving the newfound attention she is getting

Those who know the Kangal breed, the famous Turkish shepherd dog breed, will know they grow into very large dogs. While Boncuk is large he is a slightly smaller example of this breed type.

Despite the fact that Boncuk had had so little interaction with humans during his life, he took really well to his new life in foster care with a family.

One of this first experiences was going in a car for the first time to be taken to the vets to be neutered.

Boncuk is a Kangal-cross although on the smaller side of this breed type

He was as gentle as a lamb throughout the journey, and was calm and as good as gold with the vet.

He loves being cared for and he is now enjoying his walks, and is great on the lead.

It is quite clear that despite his background Boncuk will make a fabulous pet and is a real softie.

He is great with cats and while we need to do more formal testing, the early indications are that he will be great with children too.

He is non-aggressive and gets on fine with other dogs and especially with other female dogs.
