POGO

Sex: Male

Size: Medium (20 kg)
Location: In specialist kennels (UK)
Needs: A loving, patient home with rescue experienced owners (or owners with previous dog experience)
Good with: Dogs (with proper introductions), can be cat tested, best as an only dog but may suit a calm female in the right home

Pogo was rescued at just 6 months old after suffering abuse and mistreatment in a local village. Despite his rough start, he was adopted through AFOT in 2021 and lived in a loving home for three years.

In early 2024, after much consideration, his adopters made the heartbreaking decision to return him to AFOT. A second home was identified, but after just four months, they too decided to contacted AFOT to return him. Details of both set of circumstances will be shared with future applications. Through it all, Pogo’s loving, sweet nature continues to shine — he just hasn’t found the right fit yet.

In August 2024, Pogo moved to a specialist kennel setting. Since then, he has thrived. He’s shown no signs of guarding, has been sociable and relaxed around other dogs, and continues to charm everyone he meets. He is happy, food-motivated, playful, and always smiling. Due to renovations at the kennel, Pogo and the other residents had to temporary move to a nearby kennel for a 6 week period and the feedback from the owner there was that he was an absolute gentleman and was described as he is at his current kennel.

Pogo walks beautifully on a lead and doesn’t pull. Although previously accustomed to city living, he can be startled by sudden movements and loud noises — especially motorbikes — so we are seeking a calm, quiet home with a secure outdoor space. He absolutely loves exploring off-lead when safe to do so, as he did in his first home.

Pogo needs adopters who ideally have prior rescue dog experience or at the very least prior dog experience, we need to get his next home right for this sweet lad. While he is dog-friendly, he may do best as an only dog to ease the adjustment, though we are open to experienced homes with a calm resident female.

Pogo has had a difficult past but seeing how he has been since arriving in the UK and the way he interacts with the people who care for him and visit him, his perfect home is out there for him and he is ready to find it. What Pogo needs is someone who will truly understand him, accept his quirks, and give him time to flourish. He has so much love to give and deserves a forever home after everything he’s been through.

All our dogs, including Pogo, are tested for Brucella, Leishmaniasis, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and E-Canis before travel. Signed vet certificates and results will be provided.

Pogo is a sensitive, intelligent soul waiting for his perfect match. If you think that might be you, please consider welcoming him into your life — he’s ready for his forever.

Important Information

All our dogs will be tested prior to leaving Turkey for the following diseases:

BRUCELLA
LEISHMANIAS
ANAPLASMA
HEARTWORM
E-CANIS

Proof of tests and accompanying signed vet letters will be sent to adopter.

A home check is always made.

We provide a lifetime rescue back up (RBU) and work to DEFRA guidelines.

While there is no adoption fee required, we do ask for a voluntary donation to help towards our costs of between £595-£795. Each dog costs us on average £2500-£3000 to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome and our adoption donation is only a small proportion of this.

We rely solely on fundraising for the remainder plus any emergency treatment needed to help these abused, neglected and abandoned animals which are often in horrific condition and desperate need when they come into AFOT care.

Every penny we raise goes towards rescuing another dog, so even if you decide not to rehome one of our dogs today, please consider a donation so that we can continue to rescue another dog in the future.
