POGO

Sex: Male
Age: 5 Years (30th Nov 2024)
Size: Medium (20 kg)
Location: In specialist kennels (UK)
Needs: A rural, secure home with rescue-experienced adopters and a commitment to work with our specialist trainer
Good with: Dogs (with proper introductions), not cat-friendly, best as an only dog but may suit a calm female in the right home

Pogo was rescued at just 6 months old after suffering abuse and mistreatment in a local village. Despite his rough start, he was adopted through AFOT in 2021 and lived in a loving home for three years. Unfortunately, he began to show some guarding behaviours within the home — behaviours that, despite the adopters’ best efforts, never fully resolved.

In early 2024, after much consideration, his adopters made the heartbreaking decision to return him to AFOT. A second home was identified, but after just four months, they too struggled with Pogo’s insecurities and asked for him to be returned. Through it all, Pogo’s loving, sweet nature continued to shine — he just hadn’t found the right fit yet.

In August 2024, Pogo moved to a specialist kennel setting under the care of our trusted trainer, Nina. Since then, he has thrived. He’s shown no signs of guarding, has been sociable and relaxed around other dogs, and continues to charm everyone he meets. He is happy, food-motivated, playful, and always smiling.

Pogo walks beautifully on a lead and doesn’t pull. Although previously accustomed to city living, he can be startled by sudden movements and loud noises — especially motorbikes — so we are seeking a calm, rural home with a secure outdoor space. He absolutely loves exploring off-lead when safe to do so, as he did in his first home.

Pogo needs adopters who have prior rescue dog experience and are committed to working with Nina to support his transition (this is a required part of adoption and fully funded by AFOT). While he is dog-friendly, he may do best as an only dog to ease the adjustment, though we are open to experienced homes with a calm resident female.

He isn’t perfect — but no dog is. What Pogo needs is someone who will truly understand him, accept his quirks, and give him time to flourish. He has so much love to give and deserves a forever home after everything he’s been through.

All our dogs, including Pogo, are tested for Brucella, Leishmaniasis, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and E-Canis before travel. Signed vet certificates and results will be provided.

Pogo is a sensitive, intelligent soul waiting for his perfect match. If you think that might be you, please consider welcoming him into your life — he’s ready for his forever.

Important Information

All our dogs will be tested prior to leaving Turkey for the following diseases:

BRUCELLA
LEISHMANIAS
ANAPLASMA
HEARTWORM
E-CANIS

Proof of tests and accompanying signed vet letters will be sent to adopter.

A home check is always made.

We provide a lifetime rescue back up (RBU) and work to DEFRA guidelines.

While there is no adoption fee required, we do ask for a voluntary donation to help towards our costs of between £595-£795. Each dog costs us on average £2500-£3000 to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome and our adoption donation is only a small proportion of this.

We rely solely on fundraising for the remainder plus any emergency treatment needed to help these abused, neglected and abandoned animals which are often in horrific condition and desperate need when they come into AFOT care.

Every penny we raise goes towards rescuing another dog, so even if you decide not to rehome one of our dogs today, please consider a donation so that we can continue to rescue another dog in the future.
