GRACIE

Sex: Female
Age: 18 Months (Nov 2024)
Size: Medium (20 kg)
Location: In the UK and available for visits
Needs: An experienced, active home with no other pets (may consider a calm resident male dog) and a commitment to ongoing training support
Good with: Dogs (in social settings), not cat-tested, best in a pet-free home for now

Gracie arrived in the UK in early 2024 after being rescued as a tiny pup from a remote village in Turkey where she had already suffered cruelty — found with a cigarette burn on her head at just three weeks old. Thanks to a compassionate supporter who funded her rescue and travel, Gracie made it safely to the UK. Though she wasn’t originally one of our dogs, AFOT stepped in to help her find the loving home she truly deserves.

Gracie initially moved into foster care, but the transition to a home environment proved overwhelming for her. She displayed some guarding behaviours that were difficult for the resident dog and family to manage. In August 2024, she moved into specialist rescue kennels where she is now thriving and showing her true personality.

Gracie is full of energy and would suit an active, adult-only home. She is playful, affectionate, and loves attention — belly rubs and kisses are her favourite things! Although she is dog-friendly, her new home should ideally be pet-free to help her adjust more easily. With time, structure, and continued support, she will be able to build positive social relationships and possibly welcome other pets into her life in the future.

Gracie is currently working with our brilliant behaviourist Nina, and adopters must be willing to continue this training with support from AFOT (at no cost to the adopter). She’s doing incredibly well and hasn’t shown any of the behaviours she previously displayed. Gracie is eager to learn, food-motivated, and will thrive with positive reinforcement. She’ll also need support with lead walking, as she can initially pull when excited.

Gracie is a bright, affectionate, and resilient girl who just needs the right people to help her reach her full potential. With time, patience, and love, she’s going to make someone an incredibly special companion.

All our dogs, including Gracie, are tested for Brucella, Leishmaniasis, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and E-Canis before travel. Signed vet certificates and results are provided.

If you’re looking for a loyal, energetic, and loving dog to join your life — Gracie could be the one you’ve been waiting for.

Important Information

All our dogs will be tested prior to leaving Turkey for the following diseases:

BRUCELLA
LEISHMANIAS
ANAPLASMA
HEARTWORM
E-CANIS

Proof of tests and accompanying signed vet letters will be sent to adopter.

A home check is always made.

We provide a lifetime rescue back up (RBU) and work to DEFRA guidelines.

While there is no adoption fee required, we do ask for a voluntary donation to help towards our costs of between £595-£795. Each dog costs us on average £2500-£3000 to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome and our adoption donation is only a small proportion of this.

We rely solely on fundraising for the remainder plus any emergency treatment needed to help these abused, neglected and abandoned animals which are often in horrific condition and desperate need when they come into AFOT care.

Every penny we raise goes towards rescuing another dog, so even if you decide not to rehome one of our dogs today, please consider a donation so that we can continue to rescue another dog in the future.
