❄ What makes Kali special: her gorgeous black and brindle colouring

We rescued Kali from the government shelter in the summer of 2024, after Turkey’s new ‘Massacre Law’ came out.. We don’t know anything about her past, and if she had a home before.. Whether it was through abandonment, or because she was rounded up off the streets, somehow she ended up in the government shelter. With the new law being fully enforced in our area, the government shelter was getting more and more overcrowded and the dogs were really starting to struggle even more than they already were.. When we saw Kali, we knew we couldn’t leave her behind!

Kali is one of the most loving, people-focused dogs in the enclosure! She absolutely adores humans and nothing makes her happier than interacting with people. As long as she is being cuddled, Kali is happy! She is very loyal and builds strong bonds with the people she knows, but is also very friendly towards strangers and likes meeting new people.

Kali is an energetic dog, and in her excitement and enthusiasm, she can become a bit hyper when she sees people. She excitedly runs up to anyone who comes in to her kennel and jumps up on them trying to get as many cuddles as she can. We expect that she will calm down a bit once she has a family of her own, but she may still need to learn how to have calmer introductions with new people. As a high energy dog, she will also need plenty of exercise and opportunity to run and play every day.

Kali gets along well with other dogs and enjoys playing with her kennel mates. However, as she is energetic and strong, she might be intimidating for timid dogs, so she would be best suited to a home with another playful, confident dog, or as the only dog in the home. Kali does not like cats and tries to chase them.

Outside of the enclosure, Kali is pretty insecure when out on a lead. She does know how to walk on a lead, but frequently gets scared and freezes. When she is scared, she looks to her human for reassurance, and tries to go back to her familiar territory. We are working on building up her self confidence when out for walks, and she has already made some improvement. Her adopters will have to continue to work with her and give her guidance to help her feel more confident when out and about.

Kali has so much love to give, and she would be so happy to have a family of her own to give it all to! By adopting Kali, you will make her the happiest dog in the world!

Important Information

All our dogs will be tested prior to leaving Turkey for the following diseases:

BRUCELLA
LEISHMANIAS
ANAPLASMA
HEARTWORM
E-CANIS

Proof of tests and accompanying signed vet letters will be sent to adopter.

A home check is always made.

We provide a lifetime rescue back up (RBU) and work to DEFRA guidelines.

While there is no adoption fee required, we do ask for a voluntary donation to help towards our costs of between £595-£795. Each dog costs us on average £2500-£3000 to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome and our adoption donation is only a small proportion of this.

We rely solely on fundraising for the remainder plus any emergency treatment needed to help these abused, neglected and abandoned animals which are often in horrific condition and desperate need when they come into AFOT care.

Every penny we raise goes towards rescuing another dog, so even if you decide not to rehome one of our dogs today, please consider a donation so that we can continue to rescue another dog in the future.
