LENA

Sex: Female
Age: 3 Years 6 Months (Nov 2024)
Size: Medium (22-25kg)
Location: Currently in Turkey, awaiting adoption
Needs: A patient, loving home with stability and the time to build trust

Lena is a gentle, calm, and affectionate girl who has been through quite a lot in her short life. Found abandoned, starving, and malnourished in a forest by a kind Turkish couple, Lena was accompanied by another dog, Lilli, who also ended up in our care. The two of them formed a bond, and Lilli was very protective of Lena. The couple initially fostered Lena and Lilli, but after they had to move to Antalya, the dogs were placed with another rescuer before finally coming to Animal Friends of Turkey (AFOT).

Lena is now fully grown, a beautiful blonde mixed breed dog weighing 22-25kg. She’s a happy and bouncy girl, playful with most dogs and friendly with people. She occasionally takes a dislike to some female dogs, but she’s calm about it and simply removes herself from the situation. This reflects her placid, relaxed personality—Lena isn’t the type to seek confrontation.

Lena has spent a significant amount of time in a home environment and behaved impeccably there. Unfortunately, moving into kennel life has been a big adjustment for her, and she now lives in private kennels. Despite this, her sweet and loving nature shines through. She’s good with children, walks well on a lead, and knows all her basic commands.

Having had to fight for food in the past, Lena can be a little food aggressive, but this is a common behavior in dogs who have been malnourished. With patience and trust-building, Lena will thrive in her new home. She will need an adopter who can provide her with security, consistency, and plenty of love. Lena can live as an only dog or with a male dog.

Lena is now ready to travel to the UK and is neutered, vaccinated, and chipped. If you think you could offer Lena the forever home she’s been waiting for, please check out our adoption process via Adopting With AFOT. A home check is required, and while there is no adoption fee, we kindly ask for a voluntary donation to help with rescue costs.

All dogs are tested for Brucella, Leishmaniasis, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and E-Canis before travel, and proof of testing and signed vet letters will be provided to the adopter.

If you think you could offer Lena the life and forever home she deserves, please check out our adoption process via Adopting With AFOT. There, you’ll find everything you need to get started, including our adoption form. A home check is always carried out, and while there’s no fixed adoption fee, we do kindly ask for a voluntary donation to help with our ongoing rescue efforts.

Important Information

All our dogs will be tested prior to leaving Turkey for the following diseases:

BRUCELLA
LEISHMANIAS
ANAPLASMA
HEARTWORM
E-CANIS

Proof of tests and accompanying signed vet letters will be sent to adopter.

A home check is always made.

We provide a lifetime rescue back up (RBU) and work to DEFRA guidelines.

While there is no adoption fee required, we do ask for a voluntary donation to help towards our costs of between £595-£795. Each dog costs us on average £2500-£3000 to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome and our adoption donation is only a small proportion of this.

We rely solely on fundraising for the remainder plus any emergency treatment needed to help these abused, neglected and abandoned animals which are often in horrific condition and desperate need when they come into AFOT care.

Every penny we raise goes towards rescuing another dog, so even if you decide not to rehome one of our dogs today, please consider a donation so that we can continue to rescue another dog in the future.
