LUCKY

Sex: Male
Age: 3 Years (Nov 2024)
Size: Medium (17–19 kg)
Needs: A calm, patient home with a consistent routine and understanding of his background.
Good with: Other dogs (especially females), not tested with children or cats — best suited to a child- and cat-free home.

Lucky is quite literally a miracle. He was found abandoned at the gates of the AFOT sanctuary in November 2023, extremely weak and emaciated, and was moments from death. He collapsed in front of one of our carers and had to be rushed for urgent veterinary care. Against all odds — including a diagnosis of distemper — Lucky survived, and has made a full recovery thanks to round-the-clock love and care.

Now, Lucky is a truly beautiful boy. He’s a medium-sized mixed breed with a long, soft fawn-and-black coat and a gorgeous bushy tail. A unique-looking pup, he’s beginning to come out of his shell and is now joining in with playtime and walks. He is good on a lead and has excellent recall.

Because of his history of extreme hunger and neglect, Lucky guards his food and is fed separately. This is understandable, and ongoing support and patience will be key. He can live as an only dog or with a calm, friendly resident female.

Lucky adores his foster mum and thrives on cuddles, attention, and belly rubs. However, he can be wary of new people and will need time and space to adjust in a new environment. He has not been tested with children or cats, so we recommend a home without either.

Lucky has come a long way and is now ready for a forever home where he can continue to heal and grow in confidence. He’s still learning how to enjoy life, and his adopters will be giving a second chance to a dog who was nearly lost. In return, he will offer loyalty, affection, and a truly inspirational story of survival.

All our dogs, including Lucky, are tested for Brucella, Leishmaniasis, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and E-Canis before travel. Signed vet certificates and test results will be provided to adopters.

Lucky has been through so much, and now he’s patiently waiting for a family to call his own. Could that be you?

Important Information

All our dogs will be tested prior to leaving Turkey for the following diseases:

BRUCELLA
LEISHMANIAS
ANAPLASMA
HEARTWORM
E-CANIS

Proof of tests and accompanying signed vet letters will be sent to adopter.

A home check is always made.

We provide a lifetime rescue back up (RBU) and work to DEFRA guidelines.

While there is no adoption fee required, we do ask for a voluntary donation to help towards our costs of between £595-£795. Each dog costs us on average £2500-£3000 to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome and our adoption donation is only a small proportion of this.

We rely solely on fundraising for the remainder plus any emergency treatment needed to help these abused, neglected and abandoned animals which are often in horrific condition and desperate need when they come into AFOT care.

Every penny we raise goes towards rescuing another dog, so even if you decide not to rehome one of our dogs today, please consider a donation so that we can continue to rescue another dog in the future.
