Scarlett is a beautiful, loyal girl who has lived through so much and still has so much love to give. She was rescued by AFOT from a Turkish shelter in October 2021 — a place so dire it’s often referred to as a “death camp.” Heavily pregnant and painfully undernourished, Scarlett had almost given up. But with care, warmth, and safety, she slowly began to believe in life again.

She gave birth to four puppies shortly after being rescued and cared for them with devotion. Sadly, over time, all four passed away — likely one of many litters she had raised and lost before her rescue. Through it all, her gentle, sweet nature never faded. Scarlett quickly bonded with her foster mum, and it became clear she deeply prefers the company of humans to other dogs. Her ideal home is one where she can be the only dog and bask in the love and attention of her people.

Scarlett is a Turkish Anatolian Shepherd mix — a large, strong breed known for their loyalty and protective instincts. Weighing around 35 kg, she looks like a tough girl on the outside but is a complete softie who just wants belly rubs and cuddles. She has been friendly and gentle with children and is also cat friendly.

Due to the trauma in her past, Scarlett can be nervous with new people and environments. She needs an adopter with experience of rescue dogs and an understanding, patient approach to help her settle in and feel safe. Once she trusts you, she gives her whole heart and loves deeply and unconditionally.

She walks beautifully on a lead, enjoys river walks, and knows basic commands. One of her favorite things in the world is a ride in the car — it lights her up completely. She may show food guarding behavior around other dogs, a habit likely formed from long periods of hunger, so feeding should be managed thoughtfully.

Scarlett is looking for a quiet, loving home with someone who understands the journey of a dog like her. With the right person, she will blossom into the most devoted, affectionate companion — a dog who will reward your love with endless loyalty.

All our dogs, including Scarlett, are tested for Brucella, Leishmaniasis, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and E-Canis before travel. Signed vet certificates and results will be provided.

Scarlett is ready for her forever home — a soft place to land after a life full of hardship. If you think you could be that person for her, please get in touch. She’s waiting with hope.

If you can offer Scarlett the forever home she deserves, please take a look at our adoption process via Adopting With AFOT, where you’ll find everything you need to get started, including our adoption form. A home check is always carried out, and while there’s no fixed adoption fee, we do kindly ask for a voluntary donation to help with our ongoing rescue efforts.

Important Information

All our dogs will be tested prior to leaving Turkey for the following diseases:

BRUCELLA
LEISHMANIAS
ANAPLASMA
HEARTWORM
E-CANIS

Proof of tests and accompanying signed vet letters will be sent to adopter.

A home check is always made.

We provide a lifetime rescue back up (RBU) and work to DEFRA guidelines.

While there is no adoption fee required, we do ask for a voluntary donation to help towards our costs of between £595-£795. Each dog costs us on average £2500-£3000 to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome and our adoption donation is only a small proportion of this.

We rely solely on fundraising for the remainder plus any emergency treatment needed to help these abused, neglected and abandoned animals which are often in horrific condition and desperate need when they come into AFOT care.

Every penny we raise goes towards rescuing another dog, so even if you decide not to rehome one of our dogs today, please consider a donation so that we can continue to rescue another dog in the future.
