Winnie came into our care in May 2026 after one of our Trustees came across her trying to survive on the streets in a residential area. She was found with her pup who was only 5-6 months old). Both dogs were at risk of being removed by the local municipality as the new ‘animal stray’ law implemented in July 2024 had been vigorously reinforced and it now meant NO dogs were permitted to live on the streets. Any dog caught would be removed.

Winnie could not walk properly, one of her forelegs appeared to be injured and she seemed to be in some pain. Enquiries found that Winnie just ‘appeared’ one day, highly probable she had been dumped, no longer wanted, she was only a young dog. She was obviously not used to traffic, within days she had been ran over and left with the injury, no-one helped her or took her to the vets, she must have been in agony . She was then spotted a few months later with 4 pups, 3 of them were taken by Turkish people and only her one pup Dottie remained, a few months after of trying to survive we came across them. It was only a matter of time before they were removed, fates unknown…

They were both brought swiftly into AFOT care and taken straight to the vets. X-rays showed Winnie’s leg break had healed, but not in the right position and because of the position of the break it was best to leave it alone, surgery was therefore not recommended. After being on pain relief, joint supplements and some homeopathic treatment she is profoundly better. She is no longer in pain & the leg does not seem to bother her , it doesn’t stop her playing or having fun. Winnie is a truly delightful dog very easy going and gentle. She is extremely dog friendly and lives with a number of other dogs in the enclosure including her daughter Dottie.

Winnie is good on a lead and listens to you, she is intelligent and is always following you with those beautiful soulful eyes, a very pretty black and tan distinctively marked dog with a generous personality. Winnie’s ideal home would be one where there was no pressure to go on long walks, one where she could bounce and play around as she is a bright and happy dog and is still young. She could be an only dog or live with others. Winnie has not been officially cat tested but where she was found there was lots of street cats that she didn’t bother with, so we are confident with correct introductions she could live with a cat. Parents with their toddler were feeding her and the pup on the street, she was very gentle, no jumping or roughness shown, so grandparents should feel reassured that she would be ok with young children (with supervision of course)
Winnie would not want to be over exercised and some good joint supplements would be beneficial and advised. A quiet and relaxed home would suit her so she could just chill, go out when she wanted and relax when she wanted.

A really beautiful dog saved from a fate unknown with her whole life ahead of her, she has so much to give.

Winnie is neutered, vaccinated, chipped, and has been tested for Brucella, Leishmaniasis, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and E-Canis before leaving Turkey along with proof of testing and signed vet letters.
