ELSIE

Sex: Female
Age: 7 years (August 2026)
Size: 8-10 kg (Small)
Location: Turkey

Meet Elsie our beautiful middle aged lady ! Elsie came to our attention when she was making friends with everyone on a small holiday home complex in a residential area in Calis, Fethiye. She was there nearly every hour of every day for 2 weeks, sleeping on an evening in the doorways, enjoying all the attention day time and being fed by the holiday makers. It was obvious this small dog was owned as she was not in a neglected state, although her coat was unkempt, she wasn’t thin and was extremely friendly with everyone.
The big risk was that at any time Elsie would be spotted by the van that was daily removing dogs from the streets under the new law and her life was in great jeopardy. Many dogs have just simply ‘disappeared’ and we couldn’t let this happen to little Elsie, she so deserved more. We set ourselves a task of trying to locate her owner which we managed to do, her owner was a very old man living a couple of streets away, unfortunately he appeared to have mental issues and when he saw Elsie tried to harm her kicking out at her angry and irate. Poor Elsie she simply wasn’t wanted anymore….

We took her into AFOT care where she lives in an enclosure with other dogs, she has found it quite overwhelming as she is a timid quiet unassuming dog and tends to keep herself to herself. Although she does adore people and loves nothing more than cuddles.

Elsie does not like cats as she chased them avidly on the holiday complex, but she does love small children and older children as you can see from the photos. She has a quiet loving personality and would be an easy dog, just happy to be cuddled and loved. She would love to have her very own human/s. Elsie’s ideal home would be a quiet middle aged – elderly one where she was the only dog or there was another resident small one, a rural quiet home would be nice too although not essential and she would love any visiting grandchildren who could give her lots of attention and lots of cuddles.

Elsie is neutered, vaccinated, chipped, and has been tested for Brucella, Leishmaniasis, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and E-Canis before leaving Turkey along with proof of testing and signed vet letters.

If you think you could offer Elsie the forever home she’s been waiting for, please check out our adoption process via Adopting With AFOT. There, you’ll find everything you need to get started, including our adoption form. A home check is always carried out, and while there’s no fixed adoption fee, we do kindly ask for a voluntary donation to help with our ongoing rescue efforts.

Important Information

All our dogs will be tested prior to leaving Turkey for the following diseases:

BRUCELLA
LEISHMANIAS
ANAPLASMA
HEARTWORM
E-CANIS

Proof of tests and accompanying signed vet letters will be sent to adopter.

A home check is always made.

We provide a lifetime rescue back up (RBU) and work to DEFRA guidelines.

While there is no adoption fee required, we do ask for a voluntary donation to help towards our costs of between £595-£795. Each dog costs us on average £2500-£3000 to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome and our adoption donation is only a small proportion of this.

We rely solely on fundraising for the remainder plus any emergency treatment needed to help these abused, neglected and abandoned animals which are often in horrific condition and desperate need when they come into AFOT care.

Every penny we raise goes towards rescuing another dog, so even if you decide not to rehome one of our dogs today, please consider a donation so that we can continue to rescue another dog in the future.
