AFOT’s mantra is to provide hope where there is none. Sometimes, this means taking on cases of extreme abuse. Sometimes, it means helping the most overlooked dogs.
Cassie came to us from a government shelter in the East of Turkey. We asked a local volunteer to pick the most overlooked dog in the shelter. They showed us Cassie. We were told that she spent her days silently sitting by the fence of her kennel, quietly and desperately looking out through the bars, hoping it would be her turn to be saved. But black dogs often go unnoticed, and with her small-medium size she wasn’t small enough to be considered ‘cute’. At roughly 3 years old, she isn’t young enough to appeal to people looking for a young dog, but also not old enough to make people pity her and want to help her.
She is the ultimate plain Jane, and she is the perfect example of a shelter dog who had no hope of ever being noticed. We hope that her luck will turn around now, and someone will notice her and see her for the gorgeous girl she is.
Cassie is a sweet dog with an easy-going character, who has all the potential to be a perfect house pet. She just needs patient adopters who can help her navigate life in a home. She is cheerful, social and friendly, and never puts up a fuss. However, life in crowded kennels is overwhelming for her, and Cassie is becoming increasingly withdrawn and reserved.
Cassie has never had a home before, and there is much she still needs to learn. Her adopters will need to give her lots of time and space to settle in and decompress after life in busy kennels. They will need to be willing to be patient with her and give her guidance as she navigates a whole new world of life as a house pet.
Cassie isn’t a very timid dog. She is eager to learn and explore, but she hasn’t seen much of the world, and is a bit cautious. She is very friendly and happy when she sees people, but gets scared when people make a sudden movement towards her. She is a little wary when someone puts a lead on her, but once it is on, she is happy to go out on calm walks.
Cassie is friendly with other dogs, but is overwhelmed by having to share her living space with so many other dogs currently, and tries to fade into the background most of the time. When it is quiet and calm, she does like to play with other dogs, but she only does this when the surroundings are calm. She seems to prefer big, calm dogs over small, energetic dogs.
With her sweet nature, and cheerful character, we expect Cassie to adapt well to life in a home, and if given enough time to decompress, we think she will turn into the happiest, most grateful little girl! She is so ready to finally start living a care-free life.

Cassie is neutered, vaccinated, chipped, and has been tested for Brucella, Leishmaniasis, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and E-Canis before leaving Turkey along with proof of testing and signed vet letters.
