We don’t know what Drake’s life looked like before he ended up in the government shelter, but a local volunteer told us he had been there for months. He was a young, cheerful dog stuck in a dark and dreary place. Despite the bleak conditions, Drake never gave up hope. For months, every single time someone would visit the shelter, he would excitedly run up to the fence and stick his paws through the bars, so happy to finally have some human interaction, and desperately hoping that someone would finally pick him. But no-one ever did…

Despite having faced rejection month after month, Drake never let the disappointment break his spirit. He is a cheerful, boisterous dog who adores people. Although he is fully grown, he is a big puppy and he still has lots of happy, high-spirited puppy energy. He is very playful and can be very goofy. His favourite activity is splashing about in the paddling pools. He can entertain himself for ages excitedly ‘digging’ all of the water out of the pool!
Drake is a cheerful dog, who is always happy to see you and is always up for an adventure. He is full of life, and when you’re watching him proudly and mischievously run off with a toy he has just found, it’s hard to imagine that not too long ago, life in a grey, hopeless kennel was all he knew.
Although Drake is a social dog and is friendly towards other dogs, his boisterous energy isn’t a match for every dog, and some dogs shy away from him. He gets along great with other strong, playful dogs, who can match his energy. He can be nervous when meeting new male dogs, but once he gets used to them, he usually becomes great friends with them in no time.
People are Drake’s absolute favourite thing in the world. He adores humans and nothing makes him happier than getting pets and cuddles. He is so grateful to get attention, and will shower you with kisses. He gets so excited when people come to visit, and wants to be best friends with everyone he meets. His excitement when meeting people can be a bit overwhelming. He has so much love to give, and without a family of is own to give it to, it is difficult for him to stay calm when he gets the attention he so badly craves. As a result, Drake can be a bit clingy. Having a loving home where he can get all the attention he wants will make a big difference, but greeting strangers calmly may be something he will still need to learn.
Drake is confident on the lead and loves going out for walks. He would be a good fit for a family with an active lifestyle, who like going on long walks with their dog. With his cheerful personality, and mischievous antics, Drake is sure to being lots of laughter and joy to his home. He will need adopters who are able to provide him with plenty of opportunity to run and play, whilst providing the structure and boundaries that an adolescent dog needs.
Even in the most hopeless of places, Drake never gave up hope that someone would pick him and offer him a better life. He truly deserves to finally be chosen and have the loving family he has been craving for for so long…
Drake is neutered, vaccinated, chipped, and has been tested for Brucella, Leishmaniasis, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and E-Canis before leaving Turkey along with proof of testing and signed vet letters.
