It’s hard to imagine how a dog as adorable as little Cloud could ever be unwanted… But unfortunately, in Turkey, where there are millions of dogs with no home, even dogs as cute as Cloud go their whole lives without ever having anyone care about them.

We rescued Cloud from an overcrowded government shelter in the NorthEast of Turkey. This is a conservative part of Turkey, where there are few rescue groups, and dogs have practically no hope of being saved. The government shelters are filled with beautiful, friendly, adoptable dogs, but there just aren’t enough people to save them… Most will never make it out of the shelter alive.

Thankfully, AFOT was able to coordinate with a local volunteer to save Cloud from certain death in the shelter. She arrived underweight and suffering from mange, but has since made a full recovery and is now ready to find the happy home she so deserves.

With her gentle, sweet nature, Cloud is a has maintained a sense of innocence that we so often see in dogs, despite everything she has been through. Cloud is a soft-natured little dog, and she should never have had to experience the harsh life on the streets and in the shelter. This little angel doesn’t have a fighter spirit at all, and had absolutely no way to fend for herself and fight for survival. She has probably gone her whole life without anyone showing her any kindness, and she has had to live in an almost constant state of danger. But despite this, she didn’t turn into a fighter, and didn’t learn how to defend herself. Instead, her survival strategy was to become invisible and blend into the background.

Cloud is quiet, sweet and shy. She spends much of her time hiding away in her little dog house, observing the world around her and doing her best to stay safe. You can see she wants to learn to trust and be a happy pup so badly, but she needs a calm, stable home environment to be able to let her guard down.

Cloud is initially shy around strangers, and will hide at first. But with a little encouragement, she will come out of her dog house, nervously but excitedly wagging her tail, to come for a sniff. It doesn’t take her long to get used to people, and once she gets to know you she is the sweetest, most affectionate little girl. When she sees people she knows, she does a little happy dance and excitedly bounces up to you to say hello. She will gently put her little paw on you to ask for cuddles, and loves getting attention. When she is scared, she never becomes defensive, but instead becomes submissive, dropping onto the floor and showing you her belly, nervously wagging her tail. The place she feels safest is in her caretaker’s arms, and she looks towards the people she trusts for reassurance.

After always being the weakest one in situations where everyone had to fend for themselves, Cloud is nervous around other dogs. She is insecure when meeting new dogs, and prefers to avoid them. She gets along well with the dogs she shares her kennel with, and doesn’t mind sharing her dog house with them and lying side by side, but she rarely interacts with them and keeps to herself.

Outside of her kennel, the ‘outside world’ is very overwhelming for Cloud. She walks on the lead, but frightens easily and flops onto the floor and shows you her belly when she doesn’t know what to do.

Cloud is in desperate need of a calm, stable, loving home, where she can learn to feel truly safe for the first time in her life. She needs a family who can give her lots of time and patience, taking things very slowly with her at first, so she can build up her self-confidence and learn to be the care-free dog she so deserves to be able to be. It is important that her home offers her a quiet environment, with a stable daily routine, so she can learn how to be more confident step by step.

This sweet girl has known nothing but danger in her life so far, and has never experienced what it is like to be truly happy and care-free. We can’t wait to see the happy little dog that we know she will become once she finally has a loving home!

Cloud is neutered, vaccinated, chipped, and has been tested for Brucella, Leishmaniasis, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and E-Canis before leaving Turkey along with proof of testing and signed vet letters.

If you think you could offer Cloud the forever home she’s been waiting for, please check out our adoption process via Adopting With AFOT. There, you’ll find everything you need to get started, including our adoption form. A home check is always carried out, and while there’s no fixed adoption fee, we do kindly ask for a voluntary donation to help with our ongoing rescue efforts.

Important Information

All our dogs will be tested prior to leaving Turkey for the following diseases:

BRUCELLA
LEISHMANIAS
ANAPLASMA
HEARTWORM
E-CANIS

Proof of tests and accompanying signed vet letters will be sent to adopter.

A home check is always made.

We provide a lifetime rescue back up (RBU) and work to DEFRA guidelines.

While there is no adoption fee required, we do ask for a voluntary donation to help towards our costs of between £595-£795. Each dog costs us on average £2500-£3000 to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome and our adoption donation is only a small proportion of this.

We rely solely on fundraising for the remainder plus any emergency treatment needed to help these abused, neglected and abandoned animals which are often in horrific condition and desperate need when they come into AFOT care.

Every penny we raise goes towards rescuing another dog, so even if you decide not to rehome one of our dogs today, please consider a donation so that we can continue to rescue another dog in the future.
