We rescued Lexi from a government shelter, which has become a kill shelter under Turkey’s ‘Massacre Law’. With mass rounding ups happening all over Turkey and dogs flooding in to the government shelters, shelters don’t keep records of the dogs and where they came from. As there are no records, we don’t know anything about Lexi’s past. But we know she has been through a lot. Her spirit was broken when she came to us… She was completely malnourished and was terribly underweight. Her left eye has been damaged, most likely due to head trauma (it is possible someone hit her on the head), leaving her partially blind…
She was stuck in an overcrowded kennel with no way of fending for herself and no hope of survival, until we were able to spring her free. She came to us a broken dog, who had lost all hope. She was sad and scared and weak, and she didn’t know if she could trust us. But slowly but surely, she transformed into a happy dog, and has learned to enjoy life!
Lexi is a sensitive dog who easily gets overwhelmed. When she is in her kennel, where she feels safe, she is the happiest girl. She spends her days playing with the other dogs and trying to get cuddles from anyone who comes in to her kennel.
Outside of the kennels, she gets very overwhelmed by the big ‘outside world’. She lacks self-confidence in unfamiliar environments and doesn’t know whether she is safe. When she feels anxious, she turns to people for reassurance and guidance. When she feels nervous, she clings to you comfort, and when she gets very scared, she tries to hide behind you. Even when she is very scared, she never becomes defensive. Her intuitive response is to be submissive and show you her belly, and then try to bury her face in your lap to feel safe. Humans are her source of comfort and security, and Lexi will want to build up a strong bond with her adopters so that they can be her guides and show her how to navigate the world. She feels safest and happiest when she is with people, and she will be so happy to have a family of her own to get lots of cuddles and reassurance from. She will rely heavily on her adopters to learn how to feel safe and build up confidence.
Due to her lack of self-confidence, Lexi is easily intimidated by new dogs. She can be nervous when meeting new dogs, and it takes her a while to make friends. But once she is used to a new dog, she is very social and she loves playing with other dogs.
When she feels safe, Lexi is a big puppy who loves playing and running around. She is friendly with everyone she meets and is always one of the first to run up to say hello in the mornings. She is a sweet, soft-natured dog who loves people and is very affectionate.
In a safe, stable home, Lexi can learn to be her happy self all the time. Having a loving home will offer her the opportunity to feel truly safe for the first time in her life. With patient, loving guidance, she can learn that the world isn’t such a scary place after all.

Lexi is neutered, vaccinated, chipped, and has been tested for Brucella, Leishmaniasis, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and E-Canis before leaving Turkey along with proof of testing and signed vet letters.
