Flower waited such a very long time to find her forever home but was finally seen and adopted by Shannon Marie in Wakefield and her name was changed Nova, meaning ‘a star showing a sudden large increase in brightness’, which sums up Nova’s response to finding her very own hooman.
Shannon says of her first week at home, “She’s settled so well and enjoying all the spoils of home. She’s the best although not a fan of cleaning fox poop off her after nearly every walk – don’t know how she manages to find it speedy madam! Two collars needing washing in one day! Love her though!” Looks like she’s enjoying her adventures and has the most loving of homes. She deserves it after waiting so patiently, but the wait was worth it.

Flower’s original story…
Flower was taken to the dog shelter in Izmir, fortunately for her some volunteers spotted her just as she was being dropped off, they were horrified by her poor condition, with scars all over her body and large patches of fur missing, they knew she was susceptible to the viral illnesses rife within the shelter and simply wouldn’t survive. They did not want to see this happen to her, another beautiful dog ruined, so they rescued her from the man who was only too willing to hand her over.

They immediately took her to the nearby vets to get her treated and some days later they reached out to AFOT for our help.
Flower is a beautiful dog and has really blossomed in AFOT care. As her skin recovered her fur grew in, sand what a glorious coat emerged. Her soul was mended and happiness returned to this lovely dog. She loves her cuddles and belly rubs and just wants to be near you.

Flower loves her food. She has such a lovely nature typical of a Turkish shepherd mix and she is a very kind, polite girl, always eager to please, and very very clever. She loves cuddles and belly rubs and just wants to be near you.
She is very protective of food and any new owner should be aware of this and offer training in this area, but as she has a great love of food this shouldn’t be too difficult and will make training easy. She does know all her basic commands. Combined with her love of food, we believe this will make her easy to train although she knows her basic commands already.

Flower walks well in a lead although she does need her confidence building as she is still timid when unsure of new situations, although a kind word of reassurance and a belly rub normally puts her at ease.
Flower is a medium size dog with medium energy, good with both men and women, children, cats and other dogs, (providing there is no food around) she is the perfect family dog who will be a loyal companion to the right person. Flower would do well with another resident male dog, but equally well on her own. She has a beautiful nature and is just waiting for her chance to be loved.

Used to being outside in a kennel, Flower will need some training in a home environment although she is clean in her kennel. This shouldn’t take too long for a smart girl like Flower who will soon understand that home comforts are much better than life outside. She does love to run and play so a garden is essential.
Flower may have found her forever home but we have many who are still searching. If you want to register to find your perfect match please check out what’s involved in taking on one of our rescue dogs by clicking this link: Adopting With AFOT. A home check is always made and while there is no adoption fee required, we do ask for a voluntary donation to help towards our costs.
All our dogs will be tested prior to leaving Turkey for the following diseases:
BRUCELLA
LEISHMANIAS
ANAPLASMA
HEARTWORM
E-CANIS
Proof of tests and accompanying signed vet letters will be sent to adopter.

AFOT is a UK registered charity (number 1182513), run by a small group of dedicated volunteers. We provide a lifetime rescue back up (RBU) and work to DEFRA guidelines. We were set up to offer a future where there is none to dogs in Turkey. With each dog costing us on average £2500 and our adoption donation being a small proportion of this, we rely solely on fundraising to help these abused, neglected and abandoned animals.

Without us there is no hope for these dogs and for every one we rehome there is another 100 waiting to take its place. But, we can only do so much without space or funds. Being volunteer run you can be sure 100% of your money goes towards food, foster care, vet bills and travel costs. Even if you decide not to adopt, please consider a donation.
Thank you.
