TYSON

Sex: Male
Age: 5.5 years old (Aug 2026)
Size: 46 kg (Large)
Location: Turkey

TYSON came into our care when he was about 4 months old. He was one of 7 siblings born to a street dog in a remote Turkish village where dogs are loathed with a passion… The 7 sibling puppies were estimated to only be 2-3 weeks old. With no mummy in sight, animal volunteers stepped in to save them. They were moved into private care in the Dalaman region some 12 hours away.

When they were 4 months old we were asked to help, they had outgrown the space they had been allocated and were growing bigger every day, one puppy had sadly died, so six were moved into our care for a couple of months with a carer that offered to have them until we had space in our enclosure. At six months old in June 2021 they moved into one of our enclosure’s.

Tyson has moved twice since then, the last time being in June 2026. Since June we have seen some excellent improvement as now he is socializing with other dogs and meeting new people, prior to this he was in a very remote area which was not great for socializing, although he was happy there. He has gained tremendously in confidence. He is still fearful and a scaredy cat, but once he trusts he really does trust. These issues are normal for a dog that has lost its mother when only weeks old.

Tyson is a gentleman of a dog, he’s kind with a loving character. He is a very large dog and has a slight deformity on his back legs (we believe this is due to lack of nutrients when a puppy) but it doesn’t hold him back, he just walks a bit funny! He plays and runs just like all the other dogs. Tyson is super dog friendly but does not like cats.

The type of home Tyson needs is one that will offer him time to adjust at his own pace, if rushed into things this could set him back and bring his fears to the forefront. A home that is not too busy and one where he can be offered a routine so he knows what is expected of him is ideal. Tyson loves to run around and as he is a big dog a home with a very large back garden or land would suit him.

Tyson truly is a wonderful dog, he’s just a big teddy bear, one who sadly who has been in rescue far too long, we never dreamt that he would still be with us five years later and he really does deserve to enjoy all the home comforts of his on home and be able to love and be loved by his own family. Big dogs often get overlooked even though sometimes they are much gentler and calmer than small ones, Tyson falls into this category, he’s a smashing dog. He will be a best and loyal friend and we hope there is someone out there who will find it in their heart to give this boy a chance before he is much older.

Tyson is neutered, vaccinated, chipped, and has been tested for Brucella, Leishmaniasis, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and E-Canis before leaving Turkey along with proof of testing and signed vet letters.

If you think you could offer Tyson the forever home he’s been waiting for, please check out our adoption process via Adopting With AFOT. There, you’ll find everything you need to get started, including our adoption form. A home check is always carried out, and while there’s no fixed adoption fee, we do kindly ask for a voluntary donation to help with our ongoing rescue efforts.

Important Information

All our dogs will be tested prior to leaving Turkey for the following diseases:

BRUCELLA
LEISHMANIAS
ANAPLASMA
HEARTWORM
E-CANIS

Proof of tests and accompanying signed vet letters will be sent to adopter.

A home check is always made.

We provide a lifetime rescue back up (RBU) and work to DEFRA guidelines.

While there is no adoption fee required, we do ask for a voluntary donation to help towards our costs of between £595-£795. Each dog costs us on average £2500-£3000 to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome and our adoption donation is only a small proportion of this.

We rely solely on fundraising for the remainder plus any emergency treatment needed to help these abused, neglected and abandoned animals which are often in horrific condition and desperate need when they come into AFOT care.

Every penny we raise goes towards rescuing another dog, so even if you decide not to rehome one of our dogs today, please consider a donation so that we can continue to rescue another dog in the future.
