DUKIE

Sex: Male
Age: 3 Years 9 Months (June 2026))
Size: Large (37-38 kg)
Needs: A home with an experienced rescue owner who can provide regular exercise, training, and a slow introduction to home life.

Dukie’s story began in the remote Turkish mountains, where he, his mother, and ten siblings were struggling to survive. A visiting family found them and, realizing the dangerous conditions, contacted AFOT for help. With only two days to raise the necessary funds, we were able to secure their rescue thanks to the generosity of our supporters. Dukie and his family arrived in our care in the winter of 2022.
Dukie is the biggest of his four brothers, with a strong, energetic, and friendly personality. All 10 siblings have shown what lovely temperaments and natures they have and some have gone onto secure lovely homes and are thriving.
Dukie is good on a lead, but being a large breed dog, he will need an owner who can handle his strength and provide plenty of regular & consistent exercise. Dukie is dog-friendly and really loves to play, so he would thrive in a home with another dog for companionship and to be shown the ropes, however, he will chase cats, so a cat-free home is required. Because all the siblings have lovely natures and are gentle dogs they have proven to be good around children and we have no reason to think Dukie will be any different.
Whilst Dukie can be shy around strangers, he is not of a nervous disposition, more just timid, he has just moved to UK kennels (June 26) from Turkey, after living in an outside enclosure with other dogs. Dukie will need time to adjust to indoor life, as life in Turkey was very quiet in a peaceful tranquil area where he didn’t get the opportunity to be around traffic or see too many new people, he has not had any home living experience although his carers home was adjacent to the enclosure. His siblings that have found new homes have not been phased by never having lived in a home and have shown that after the settling in period (which may take a few months) along with the owner offering patience and taking it at the dogs own pace that they are all really wonderful dogs whom their owners adore and we know Dukie will be the same. He will thrive in a home with good outdoor space and an owner who can give him the attention and exercise he needs with no time pressures put on him.
This handsome boy is intelligent, happy, brave, a very good looking & loving dog who has the potential to become a loyal, well-behaved companion with the right guidance. Dukie is now (June 26) in the Cambridgeshire area of Wisbech and visits are strongly recommended and can be arranged via AFOT.
Important Information

All our dogs will be tested prior to leaving Turkey for the following diseases:
BRUCELLA
LEISHMANIAS
ANAPLASMA
HEARTWORM
E-CANIS
Proof of tests and accompanying signed vet letters will be sent to adopter.
A home check is always made.
We provide a lifetime rescue back up (RBU) and work to DEFRA guidelines.
While there is no adoption fee required, we do ask for a voluntary donation to help towards our costs of between £595-£795. Each dog costs us on average £2500-£3000 to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome and our adoption donation is only a small proportion of this.
We rely solely on fundraising for the remainder plus any emergency treatment needed to help these abused, neglected and abandoned animals which are often in horrific condition and desperate need when they come into AFOT care.
Every penny we raise goes towards rescuing another dog, so even if you decide not to rehome one of our dogs today, please consider a donation so that we can continue to rescue another dog in the future.
