Alfie was adopted by the wonderful Sharples family who had previously adopted our gorgeous girl Sophie. Being a mini-retriever-ish boy he brings out the very best in Sophie and they are both living the high life in Darlington.
They’re always out exploring and posing in the most beautiful photos by photographer Dad, David, who loves to share them on our Facebook group, which is fabulous as we do love to see how our AFOT dogs are getting on and it looks like Alfie & Sophie couldn’t be happier…

Alfie’s original story…
Alfie came to our attention after being rushed to the vets by a local Turkish couple who found him lying on the streets with blood pouring from his nose. It was thought at first he had been involved in a traffic accident but on further investigation he was found to have blood parasites that meant his blood wasn’t clotting properly; poor boy was found just in time and he was extremely poorly and without veterinary intervention would not have made it.

We do not know any history on Alfie prior to this, we do know he was a street dog as he had a tag in his ear which means the local charity had neutered him but prior to this we have no history. It’s possible he was in a home as a pup then abandoned.

He currently mixes his living conditions sometimes popping into the the sanctuary keepers home and bedding down for the nights, sometimes he decides to sleep on the balcony and other times he will join the dogs outside.

He is a strong stout boy, very dog friendly, very easy going, with a natural exuberance, he would do well as an only dog getting all the attention or with a female resident dog.
Alfie is 3 years 9 months (July 2024), weighs approximately 19kg and is a short, stocky small/medium sized mix breed dog who will make someone a loyal wonderful companion.

He is incredibly handsome with soulful eyes and a very special tail and will truly make any house a home!
Alfie may have found his forever home but we have many more waiting, so if you think you could offer one the life and the forever home they so deserves then please check out what’s involved in taking on one of our rescue dogs by clicking this link: Adopting With AFOT.

A home check is always made and while there is no adoption fee required, we do ask for a voluntary donation to help towards our costs.

All our dogs will be tested prior to leaving Turkey for the following diseases:
BRUCELLA
LEISHMANIAS
ANAPLASMA
HEARTWORM
E-CANIS
Proof of tests and accompanying signed vet letters will be sent to adopter.
AFOT is a UK registered charity (number 1182513), run by a small group of dedicated volunteers. We provide a lifetime rescue back up (RBU) and work to DEFRA guidelines. We were set up to offer a future where there is none to dogs in Turkey. With each dog costing us on average £2500 and our adoption donation being a small proportion of this, we rely solely on fundraising to help these abused, neglected and abandoned animals.
Without us there is no hope for these dogs and for every one we rehome there is another 100 waiting to take its place. But, we can only do so much without space or funds. Being volunteer run you can be sure 100% of your money goes towards food, foster care, vet bills and travel costs. Even if you decide not to adopt, please consider a donation.
Thank you.
